QUALITY. LEVEL III

On Thursday, December 5, 2013 the Regional Minister of Education, Ms Maria Jose Catala gave us the Level III Certification Network of Centres of Educational Quality of the Valencian Community, as part of the session: "The improvement through family-school "relationship organized by the Directorate General of Innovation, Management and Language Policy of the Department for Education, Training and Employment.

VISIT TO CANARY

From 17th to 19th  October  a delegation of our teachers attended the “VII Encuentro y Muestra Internacional de Experiencias Bibliotecarias y de Animación Lectora” in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands )   and were awarded with the second prize . Our presentation was a summary of the activities carried out last year at our school to improve our students’ communication skills and literacy in Spanish, Valencian and Spanish.
Therefore, we designed a large number of activities which enhanced our students’ imagination and creativity . We also presented our Comenius Video " The Mystery of the Stars " which is a tool that has helped us introduce the feeling of European citizenship through a funny and motivating activity such as recording a video in the school environment.

VISIT TO GERMANY

In October, a group of teachers were invited to attend the third Comenius project visit “Kids in democracies are encouraging us. Kids are EU” in  Germany together with our European partners in Northern Ireland , Turkey and Sweden. The project is based on the promotion of democratic schools and the education in plural societies with cosmopolitan citizens committed to social improvement . Our main aim is to increase the decision making of all the sectors of the educational community in the schools management and the creation of a European Children 's School Council. We all realize that we may improve our schools if we get the commitment and involvement of all sectors. The project website and the Children's Rights Calendar was presented at the Grund - undMittelschule Unterwoessen (Germany) on October 24 th with a delegation of teachers from all participating schools and the local authorities.
As Professor Santos Guerra in his recent article “Escuela de Cometas” published  on his blog ADARVE  said: schools and families have to direct their efforts to the formation of free people and not robots deprived of judgment or  own will . Students must be able to actively participate in the family, in the society and in the school , taking up responsibilities. A true civic education and citizen needs to know his rights, as well as respect everyone’s freedom.

WE ARE COMENIUS!!! (2013-2015)

COMENIUS MULTILATERAL PARTNERSHIP

KNOWING ME, KNOWING EU: LEARNING SKILLS, OLD AND NEW.

Partners:

COLEGIO HERNÁNDEZ S.L. (Spain-Coordinating school)
                 TERMON NATIONAL SCHOOL (Ireland)
DIMOTIKO AGIAS MARINAS CHRYSOCHOUS (Cyprus)
PIKES LANE PRIMARY SCHOOL (England)
ZESPÓŁ SZKÓŁ MIEJSKICH NR 1 w JAŚLE (Poland)
POLLOKSHIELDS PRIMARY SCHOOL (Scotland)
SCOALA GIMNAZIALA "GEORGE BACOVIA" (Romania)

The partnership involves a range of primary schools in Cyprus, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, England, Poland and Romania with students aged from 3 to 12 years old. They are all state controlled schools. Children with special educational needs are also involved as well as a high proportion of migrant children and children from socially and economically deprived backgrounds.
The project is based on the development of entrepreneurial skills for the future and it is entitled “  Knowing Me, knowing EU: learning skills, old and new “. We will explore old skills and jobs in all the partner countries and we will promote the development of new talents, which will make our students active European citizens with initiative and resources.
The competence we aim to foster in our project are:
- Communication in foreign languages. We will work mainly in English but we will also provide linguistic preparation in Spanish, Polish, Greek and Romanian.
- Cultural awareness and expression. We want to learn more about other cultures, countries and languages through videos, music, workshops. We will focus on the respect for “difference” and richness of European diversity. Some students will take part in the mobilities.
- Sense of initiative and antreprenorialship. We will create the enterprise FUTURE (From Us To yoU Reinventing Europe) with branches in every partner school.
- Social and civic competences are present. We will learn about jobs in the past in every country  through aspirational figures or local heros and reflect on how they can influence the future labour market.
- Mathematical competence and basic competence in economy ( statistics about jobs, currencies, exchange rates, profit/loss concepts,budgets...)
- Digital comp. Communication / products
- Learning to learn. Hand on method.

We firmly believe that all through education and by starting at early levels, it’s the only way we can face current problems such as unemployment, wrong professional orientation or social exclusion. We all think that our schools must prepare students for future life and be able to predict future needs within the employment field.

Therefore the tasks we have selected are aimed at targeting the national priorities of each of our countries and  the needs of our students. .We will encourage our students to acquire and discover new competences and skills which will help them in their adult life to find their own space and make the most of their potential. We will open our schools and communities to other European realities and to the global economy.
We would like to raise students’ aspirations and encourage them to be flexible, open-minded, challenging and able to promote innovation, creativity, autonomy and productiveness at all levels, because in their future working life they will need to be able to adapt themselves to constant changes. We want to foster a life long learning attitude within our learning communities (students, staff, teachers and parents)

The importance of developing the skills of working with and relating well to others will also be an important part of our project. We will promote shared decision making, responsability, organisation of democratic processes to choose our logo ( it will be a Badge that will compile all seven logos, one from each of our schools),mascot and T-shirt and to make the most important decisions to run our enterprise. Our children will work together to run the enterprise FUTURE ,ICT Video-linked, "Do it- share it" Videos and to organise a Eurovision Song Contest in each of visits to the partner schools. Through collaborative work they will learn about fair trade, economic language, ...They will work together to devise whatever guidelines are needed for this. We, as adults, will facilitate this and we will have no preconceived ideas on how this enterprise should run. We will simply want as many children as possible to decide that they want to join in as much as possible. They will learn to speak, listen and negotiate. We need to support a sense of belonging, an identity, self-esteem and self-woth. Their minds will be open to change. We believe we can be successful in this.

We will work with children so that they are encouraged to ge good and active European citizens with a deeper knowledge of themselves and of the partner countries. At our schools we have migrant and refugee children mostly from South America, Morocco, Pakistan, .... who are also part of Europe. The exchange of ideas and visits to the partner schools in the project gains an extra added understanding of diversity of European realities and a dimension that we wouldn’t experience outside this partnership. We have different nationalities, languages, ways of life but we all face the same problems. We will promote celebration of others, not tolerance of others. We will create the board game "Knowing me, knowing EU" that will include all the things we need to know from all the partner schools and that we have learnt along the two years of the partnership, it will be presented to our local communities in our last visit to the coordinating school in Spain.

Happy European Day of languages! 26th September
