Lights, camera and … education! El Colegio Hernández at FIC-CAT 2019

The short film I was here, starring the pupils of Colegio Hernández, has been selected to participate in the 12th edition of the Costa Daurada Catalan International Film Festival, in Roda de Berà (Tarragona). The festival, which took place from the 8th to the 15th of June, has definitely been consolidated as the film reference contest in Catalan, encouraging the learning and use of audiovisual and multimedia language.

On Thursday, June 13th was the day dedicated to the projections of educational cinema. Until there, students attended the different short films, to enjoy the final screenings, among which was I was here.

Red carpet, great film professionals, interviews with various media … everything is ready for the students of 1st and 2nd year of ESO to enjoy the seventh art festival. Alexandra Matvyeyeva and Sergi Tebar were in charge of presenting the short film produced in the Erasmus + “Our Lives, Our Stories” project, with Pollokshields Primary School in Glasgow.

In the words of Sergi: “A news appeared in the media that reported on the finding of weapons of the Civil War in a house of our town, inspired us to make a short one on historical memory and to publicize the role of the brigadists Scottish people who participated in the showdown.

Alexandra adds: “But I was here is, above all, a love story. Of love between two people from different countries, who are forced to take refuge in a neighboring country to save their lives … As often, reality overcomes fiction. ”

On Saturday 15 the meeting of teachers of educational centers was held. A space where the teachers of the Cinematic TIC project of the Hernández School were able to exchange and share experiences and audiovisual materials, explain methodologies, complete projects, create networks and agree on the lines for future collaborations. A great initiative of the FIC-CAT with the aim of enhancing the role of audiovisual in the classroom.

On Saturday night the closing gala of the festival took place, with the awards and trophies being awarded to the winners and winners of the different modalities. In the category of cinema of educational centers, the short film “A space gift”, from the students of 1st ESO at the Son Pacs Institute in Palma (Balearic Islands), won the award.

Although not awarded, the selection of the short film for its projection in the FIC-CAT 2019 has been a wonderful experience, both for the students and the faculty of the center, who have been able to live first hand the operation, the Professionalism and the elegance of a great international film festival.
