Shakespeare Week

“Cervantes & Shakespeare Week” at Col·legi Hernández

Colegio Hernández Villanueva de Castellón held “Shakespeare & Cervantes Week” from 5 to 8 April to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of the two authors who are considered great masters of literatura.

We had the pleasure of having the presence of Barbara Gentles from Crook Primary School (England) and expert in Shakespeare. Barbara has trained at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and the University of Warwick. He is currently advisor to the Royal Shakespeare Company in a network of schools in the north east of England and coordinates Shakespeare transmission. He has developed this activity in schools in Germany, India and three times in our centre.

On Friday 8th April and to close the week, our students performed Hamlet at the Theatre Ideal. The show began with a puppet show where Joanot Matorell, Cervantes and Shakespeare talk about work of writers. Then make way for the work performed entirely in English and moments of tension and a lot of emotion, usually as the works of Shakespeare.

During the week Luz Maria Olmo (library Chinchilla Montearagón-Albacete) and Amparo Cuenca (library Depósito del Sol Albacete) to present us their educational project “Los Molinos del saber popular,”.

During this week we were able to enjoy new experiences and a deeper understanding on these essential figures in Spanish and English literatura.
